NewSong Mission Trip

Hands of Hope Blog

Each fall, hundreds of people flock to Brown County, Indiana, a haven of rustic beauty and quiet charm. While this past October proved to be no exception, there was a slight difference. This year, despite unseasonably chilly temperatures, a group of 8 adults and 12 children from the Hands of Hope team bundled up and made their way down Interstate 65 to the popular tourist destination… the goal of their trip, however, was a bit different from that of most tourists visiting Brown County.

Their mission was to assist our newest partner orphanage, NewSong, with preparations for their Open House Chili-Fest scheduled to take place the following weekend.

The morning began bright and early with introductions and a quick orientation session at 8:30am. Project assignments soon followed as each team member was suited with the tools necessary to complete their tasks. The boys and men began by moving cabinets and heavy supplies and then continued on to burning piles of wood that had been gathered the previous weekend. Meanwhile, the girls and women painted a laundry room, cleaned windows and swept floors throughout two of the homes. As the day came to a close, the Hands of Hope team gathered for one final moment of devotion and sharing with the staff of NewSong before heading for home.

“I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do something I can do.”
-Helen Keller
