Exodo May 2017 Update

Exodo Orphanage in El Salvador has several exciting changes that have occurred over this past year.  As you have hopefully noticed, a new communication system between the children and each of you as sponsors was initiated a few months ago which includes monthly email correspondence. Our translator, Karen Acevedo, is visiting the children monthly and gathering all of their letters, translating them into English, and having them forwarded to sponsors (you!). All letters received from sponsors are translated into Spanish by Karen and hand delivered to each child. We have received a wonderful response from both the children and sponsors who are deepening their connections and learning more about each other with every letter. The investment in these children's lives is so impactful and is bringing them so much joy to know they are loved and cared for.
Exodo is starting to highlight a "Child of the Month" starting on June 1st in attempt to increase awareness surrounding the opportunity to sponsor children at Exodo. Each month, a new child will be featured on the Exodo website and social media page. This information will be forwarded to all sponsors with the request to please pray for the featured child during that entire month.
One of the children at Exodo, Jazmin, had cleft palate reconstruction surgery and is recovering well. The transition home children all took turns helping to care for Jazmin and help her through the healing process. She is getting better every day and integrating back into normal activities.
Three of the transition home girls are now pursing higher education goals and are working very hard at their studies, Estela is pursuing marketing, Morelia is pursuing accounting, and Gaby has just started in a program to become a nurse. One of the transition home boys, Manuel, has just started his first year at the University to study Architecture.  We are so proud of all of the transition home boys and girls for diligently working to improve their education while maintaining their chores, bible study, relationships, and homes. God is going to do amazing things through each one of them!
Hands of Hope sent a team to stay on site at Exodo in January and has a team scheduled to visit:
  • June 8-14
  • July 28-August 1
We are blessed to continue building strong relationships with the children and staff at Exodo through these teams. Although the teams for 2017 are finalized, you are all invited to plan to come in 2018!

We also wanted to make you aware that, recently, the government  in El Salvador has pulled all of its funding from Exodo and organizations similar to Exodo due to lack of funds. This has left a significant deficit in the monthly budget for Exodo.

Prayer Requests:
  • Please pray for an increase in local and international donors so the children and staff at Exodo will be provided with all of their daily needs.
  • Please pray for the continued spiritual growth of all of the children and staff at Exodo.
  • Please pray for the continued protection and safety for the children and staff at Exodo.
God Bless,
Kathleen Gannon
