In 2012, after God blessed our family with three wonderful children, He suddenly began to stir up my husband, Joe and my hearts and placed a burden for orphan care/adoption. Either one of us didn't see it coming and for a while we were not willing to accept His calling. But God was persistent in pursuing our hearts with a series of events we could not possibly ignore. During this time I happened to see a brochure for Hands of Hope Adoption & Orphan Care Ministry and met with Suzy Roth where I heard about the information meeting.
Attending the Hands of Hope information meeting in February 2013 was our “official” first step that we took as a couple in response to God’s countless nudging for us to consider adoption. Both Joe and I were not only unsure of this new possible calling at that point, but we also had no knowledge on the subject whatsoever. The information meeting turned out to be exactly what we needed. We were able to learn the basic information and different options/aspects of adoptions and received resources that we could review after the meeting. More importantly, all of the Hands of Hope hosts were very open in sharing their personal stories of adoptions, and their stories gave us the assurance that every adoption is a faith journey which God orchestrates in every little detail.
Looking back, I see that God used the information meeting as the start of our turning point toward adoption. Attending the meeting together gave Joe and me the confidence to discuss the possibilities more openly with each other and with our kids. In December 2013, we embarked on our own faith journey of adoption and are currently in the process of adopting a child from Korea. I pray that God would lead many others to open their hearts to adoption just as He did for us through the Hands of Hope information meeting.
